Údarás Na Gealtachta and SW-Grow in conjunction with Bioeconomy Week Ireland hosted a workshop on Sustainable Seaweed. The event was chaired by Project Executive Máire Ní Einniu and opened with an overview of the EU, The Northern Periphery and Arctic 2014-2020 funded project SW-Grow by project officer Cliodhna Ní Ghriofa. An update on seaweed drying studies from SW-Grow was delivered by Dr. Roy Bartle of Lews Castle college, where he outlined the staggering finding that increasing temperature of drying can significantly reduce drying time. The main showcase of the event was a valuable two-hour interactive work shop with Dave Garforth of RS Standards, where he outlined the various standards and accreditation available to harvesters, processors and those involved in the seaweed industry today.
